History of Daft Punk – All their greatest hits in one mix!

Daft Punk are one of my favourite groups with hits like ‘Around the World’ and ‘Digital Love and more recently ‘Get Lucky’. Their main hit release album Random Access Memories releases on May 24th but if you’re wanting to get a bit of a history lesson with some of the biggest Daft Punk releases then listen to this live set which was aired in France, Daft Punks home country.

Lasting roughly an hour it has some fantastic hits all mixed into one with a French commentator. Take a listen and enjoy!

Kings Lynn Stars Application passes 100 downloads!

KL Stars App Banner

As you may or may not know the Kings Lynn Stars android app is the first one I’ve developed for the platform using Adobe Air technology. A few weeks ago the app surpassed 100 downloads! This is incredible for a free application.

Where to go from here

Of course I’m not finished with this application and keeping it up to date with the latest results, league table and team information is no small chore. I plan to make the application load even faster, have more pictures and even try to include some news elements.

Of course I have some other applications on the go for the Google Play store. Recently published SEO Handbook is the first paid application which I’m experimenting with. Of course the next big leap would be to include my applications on both iOS devices and Google Play at the same time which can be achieved easily using the tools that I’m using. If you’ve got an idea or business which could need a 21st touch and need a Norwich App Developer then I could be your man. Let me know.

Upcoming Android Applications

I thought I’d just give you a heads up on some of the Android applications I’m currently dabbling with and my thoughts towards them.

Elite League Speedway App 2013 – Given the success of the Kings Lynn Stars Application I’ve decided to roll out a version across the entire Elite League Speedway. This would contain league news and tables. I’m playing to finish this application over the easter holiday. This will be a paid application with a one-off fee throughout the year.

SEO Handbook – Second application I have in development is a small application dedicated to teaching people on my knowledge of Search Engine Optimization. I was going to charge for this application but am deciding to make this application fully ad supported but no conflicting with my recent policy on adverts.

Kings Lynn Stars Application - This application is continuing to grow and I’m considering alot of avenues for it. I’ll keep it free and only have one version of the application. I am going to be using adverts but only on the homepage and this will be implemented soon. I next plan to add a call function so you can ring the Norfolk Arena from the application itself.

Stay tuned!

My Policy on Adverts

Advertising online is a tricky debate for me. I see the purpose of it but I also think given how intrusive adverts have become over time that there’s better ways of making money. While advertising revenue is still generally low it’s still better than receiving income especially if you’re selling your products rather than offering it for free.

So I thought I’d come up with a little policy on how I deal with adverts across my products.

If you pay for something there should be no adverts, period. The amount of times I see this if you’re paying for a product and they load it up with adverts. Seen in a lot of mobile applications as of late it’s rather a kick in the teeth as I personally feel that because you’ve paid for the application it should be it. You may feel different about this but for any products/app/website that I charge for usage of it will NEVER have adverts within.

No intrusive adverts, ever. I understand that brand loyalty is such a big thing nowadays and those annoying pop-up advertisements, adverts with sound, expanding adverts and even adverts at the start of videos. These annoy the hell out of me and I will have absolutely no intention of clicking on it regardless of whether it’s a product or service I’m interested in. I am, for future and current projects be sticking with the IAB standards with the MPU, Footer and Mobile Ads.

I hope this policy suits you. I’ve designed all my apps to be how I would want to experience it if a different developer had made it rather than just make a quick buck.

My Entertainment Fix

When it comes to getting entertainment nowadays it’s very hard to beat the value of newer and more competitive outlets. In this blog post I’ll be posting about which services online I use to get my entertainment fix which includes video games, music, movies and TV.

Video Games

Gaming isn’t a cheap hobby with new games costing a fortune, new consoles costing a fortune having great services to give me my gaming fix is great. I use two ongoing services which I rely on my games and occasionally will buy a new game aka Grand Theft Auto 5.

Boomerang Rentals

This is a relatively new service which I’ve began using. I use the value package which comes in at £3.99 a month and entitles me to 1 games in their collection every month for just £3.99. It’s an awesome service with a quick turn around and access to loads of games including brand new releases. I’m currently playing through Max Payne 3. You can sign up for a 30 day free trial here.

PlayStation Plus

If you have a PlayStation 3 or a PS Vita and you don’t own PlayStation Plus you’re very foolish. You can instant access to 10 top games which some are brand new releases plus discounts themes, avatars and more. The most value package out of any of these I’ve mentioned. Some of the current games are Sleeping Dogs, F1 Race Stars, Just Cause 2, inFamous 2 and LittleBigPlanet 2.

Movies & TV

If you’re like me you’ll absolutely despise advertisements and find that BBC hasn’t got everything you want then this section is for you both free and paid services.

Netflix

Of course this was going to be my first one. I love Netflix. I love how it streams onto my PS3, tablet, computer and mobile. I love how I can continue on from what I was watching on any of these devices. I love the content which isn’t on television and most importantly no ADVERTS!

I’m currently watching through The Office (US) and Dexter all in HD for less than £8 a month. Bargain.

Hulu

While it does serve up adverts which can be countered with an adblocker (sometimes) it also offers up films which I can’t watch on Netflix or otherwise. If you’re in the UK it’s best to install Hola Unblocker so you can access it.

Music

While I’m not so hot on my music as I used to be it’s still nice to listen to music however you want on the cheap or completely free.

YouTube

Sure enough the quality can sometimes be bad and advertisements can ruin songs (not with adblocker) it’s great that you can quickly make playlists but also watch the music videos at the same time. Not to mention those handy YouTube to MP3 converters which makes it easy to keep them.

VidZone

Another free service which is only available on the PlayStation 3 is VidZone. A simple service which streams music videos for free with adverts but offers selected playlists from artists themselves. A great service on a great platform.

My Top 10 Favorite PS3 Games this Generation

10. Uncharted 2 : Among Thieves

uncharted 2

In at number ten is Naughty Dogs amazing world featuring Nathan Drake in the second Uncharted. Now why did I choose this one over the Drakes Deception? Pure a simply because it was a more ground breaking title at the time. Don’t get me wrong Uncharted 3 made me think ‘holy shit’ more than at least 4 times during the game this one just felt more alive to me.

9. Mirrors Edge

mirrors-edge

This was the first game I played on my brand spanking new HD telly and for good reason this game is absolutely stunning. It looks great and doesn’t play like anything I’ve ever played before and because it was so different I kept playing and playing. It was addicting to try and shave times off while free-running. Did I mention how good it looked?

8. Flower

flower-ps3Yet another questionable entry when I could’ve chosen to include Journey in this list. The reason I preferred Flower over Journey is because it just was so cool which isn’t something you’d think was cool if someone was simply describing you control a flower petal. The colours and the soundtrack was amazing and was the one game I’d show off to the Xbox crowd who couldn’t play this.

7. Battlefield 3

battlefield3Given a later entry which you’ll soon find out about you can sort of understand why this is so high up on my list. I had this pre-ordered the second I saw it. It looked stunning and just so ahead of its time. Whether or not the single player fully delivered it’s still to be said but the multiplayer was epic and because I purchased premium, which was the first DLC map pack that I bought it just kept getting more and more fun.

6. Ratchet and Clank : A Crack in Time

ratchet and clank a crack in timeWhether it was just me or not I loved the original three Ratchet and Clanks. I would play them constantly and was my number one priority as I came home each day from primary school. A Crack in Time was the best PS3 iteration of Ratchet and Clank as I wasn’t so hot on All 4 One or Tools of Destruction. This one done my childhood memories of this game justice to which I commend Insomniac Games.

5. MAG

MAG-PS3Probably one of the more controversial on this list but MAG just always felt so good when I played it. There is nothing better than leading a squad which you then push to all the objectives and complete it. The leadership structure was spot on and the constant patches made the game feel fresh at all times. MAG is probably one of the guilty pleasures on this list.

4. The Walking Dead

The-Walking-Dead-PS3-gameThis is one hopefully most of you will agree on. The Walking Dead is such a leap forward for the way games can be in terms of interaction. The character progression, branching story lines and the harsh choices which the game makes you decide is just so groundbreaking that it made it onto this list. I never have liked a TellTale game but The Walking Dead was epic and I hope we see future games like this.

3. inFamous

infamous-ps3I struggled which of the two inFamous’s to place on this list but ultimately it was the one I spend (wasted) the most hours in which had to be the first inFamous. Its fair rare that games are good enough where I can spend tens of hours playing without actually touching a mission or side mission and being a superhero fan this was a godsend. I loved every second of both games but especially the first.

2. Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare

call-of-duty-4-modern-warfareCall of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare is the reason I bought a next-gen console. It’s part of the reason why I loved this generation, the multiplayer. To tell a short story my step uncle had a PS3 with this game and I used to craze him for me to go round on the weekends to play it. Eventually I got sick of asking and took the plunge (well my parents wallets) and bought a PS3. It was the most addictive multiplayer I’ve ever played and still is addictive.

1. Red Dead Redemption

red-dead-redemption-ps3So my number one is Red Dead Redemption. There’s a good reason for this which is Rockstar made it and while I wasn’t so keen on Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption was the best video game I’ve played on this generation. It was authentic, fun to play, rewarding, open, rich and had such a good story narrative. If you haven’t played this you are really missing out!
